West Park Church is the name of the group of Christian people who gather at Connaught Road to worship God, and work together with this purpose:
Our main goal is to glorify God. We will proclaim His word to make disciples, so that they may be presented as perfect, mature and holy before our Lord Jesus Christ.
We do not consider ourselves to be special, or better than anybody else. We are merely people who are united by our experience of God’s grace in our lives, humbled by His goodness, excited by what He has done for us, is now doing in and among us, and by the hope of what is yet to be.
Drawn from many different backgrounds, we derive our beliefs and practices from a book called the Bible. In this unique book, God still speaks to humanity, and only in this book does God show us how we can know Him, and His Son, Jesus Christ.
As an independent church we are self-supporting and self-governing, and are not part of the authority structure of any group of churches. We do, however, maintain good links with many likeminded churches, both locally and further afield.
As a church we hold to the biblical baptist practice of fully immersing new Christians in water so that they can declare publicly their newfound allegiance to Jesus Christ. Nobody is born a Christian (whatever country they live in, or family they are born into). The Bible teaches that every human being is accountable to God, and must make his or her own response to God’s call upon them to repent of their wrongdoing (“sin”), and put their faith in Jesus Christ to reconcile them to God.
Our church stands in the mainstream of historic Christian belief, as summarised in the great creeds and confessions drawn up at key moments in church history. Adherence to the beliefs and practices set out in these statements marks us out as “evangelical Christians “.
The leadership of the church is in the hands of Elders and Deacons, and the following presently fulfil those roles:
Andrew Whitehead (Minister)
Originally from Aberdare, Andrew studied music at Aberystwyth and spent some years teaching in secondary schools. After training for the Ministry, Andrew served a church in Stoke-on-Trent before coming to Wolverhampton in December 2013. He is married to Karen and they have four sons.
Steve Doyle (Elder)
Steve was born and raised in Essex. While studying at Wolverhampton University, he became a Christian and joined West Park Church. Steve works as a Human Resources Manager. Steve is married to Helen, and they have two sons and a daughter (all grown up).
Adrian Sargent (Elder)
Adrian grew up in Wolverhampton, becoming a Christian in his teenage years and has belonged to this church for over 40 years. Until retirement he worked in public sector organisations in corporate governance. He and Faith have a son and a daughter, and five grandsons.
Paul Bradley (Deacon)
Brought up in a local Christian home, Paul has been a member of this church for many years, and serves as our Treasurer. He is an accountant and works for a multinational accounting services company. Married to Caroline, they have two sons.
Courtney Smith (Deacon)
Also a Wulfrunian, Courtney pounds our troubled streets as a Police Community Support Officer. He has been a Christian and church member for almost 40 years, and married Gillian in 2014.
The charity which sits behind the church is called the Stable Trust – charity number: 251378
